Julien Smith and The Impact Equation at Berkeley Church
Third Tuesday Toronto brought Julien Smith to The Berkeley Church event venue Toronto to engage the participants in the subject matter of his and Chris Brogan’s new book The Impact Equation.
Consultants Brogan and Smith, authors of Trust Agents, offer guidelines for getting customer attention and building community online through social media and social networks. Rather than offering technical details on how to use social media, the authors instead explain how to build ideas, how to move the ideas through a platform so they will be seen and discussed, and how to build a strong human element around those ideas so that people know you care about their participation. Their ‘impact equation’ can be used to measure the impact of an organization’s blog, tweets, videos, or mainstream-media advertising campaign. “We’re not writing about Twitter and Facebook and Google+ and Pinterest and Path, because who cares? Those things are temporary, and they aren’t the things that matter. The people are what matters.” Julian Smith & Chris Brogan
“We are more platform agnostic than ever. Coming to a new Web site, you may trust it or you may not, but you care much less about where an idea originates and much more about who shared it with you.” Julian Smith and Chris Brogan
